The most important stroke in the game is the serve, it starts the points and can win you a match. There are many different ways you can serve and the style of your serve is mostly chosen from personal preference. There are many different types of serves but the only ones you want to use are these three: the flat serve, the kick serve, and the slice serve. There are three main spots you want to serve and they're: down the T, out wide, and in the middle which is used to jam the opponent.
The first serve I am going to tell you about is the flat serve. This is what I like to call the Andy Roddick serve because he uses it the most and hit the fastest serve ever recorded which was 155 mph. When you hit this serve you want to throw the ball out in front of your body, this will help you create less spin and put more speed on the ball. I like to use this serve and jam the opponent so I can catch him off guard and put myself in and offensive position right at the beginning of the point.
The second serve in going to teach you is the kick serve. This is my favorite serve to hit because it can be used in the first or second serve. This serve can be placed just about anywhere in the service box. To hit this serve you need to toss the ball just behind your head and act as if you were to hit the ball straight up. This action will create a large amount spin on the ball causing it to sink and right after it bounces it will kick up. That is why it is called the kick serve. This will put the ball out of your opponents strike zone and will get him or her off balance. Another way to start the point offensively. This is very effective second serve.
Lastly, I am going to help hit a slice serve. this serve to want to toss to your right if you are a righty or your left if your a lefty. That will help you create side spin on the ball. This serve can be used as mostly a second serve in my opinion. it is very similar to the flat serve just not as powerful and more spin.
If you have any questions I will gladly answer them.
